Sita

This relief has a depth of almost ten centimeters. The depicted figure of Sita is almost entirely a free statue in the relief. Unfortunately, the photos cannot adequately convey the three-dimensional effect and actual beauty.
The original owner bought the carving from Njana Tilem Gallery during a holiday in Bali in 1990, and the artist made it in 1989. Carvings this good were very expensive even then, and they are even more so today.
The wood is neatly carved and polished down to the smallest corner. I particularly like Sita's beautiful face and her delicate hands.
Fine tools were needed to clean and oil the surface. I had to think about how professional the carver was to get the finest structures into the wood under these space conditions and then polish it. This is truly incredible craftsmanship!
