Ceremony

dimensions: 60x38x4 cm
weight: 2100 gr

What is shown here? It could be a wedding ceremony with elements of everyday life.
This carving is a commissioned work and there is a backstory to it that the seller of this carving told me. Her Dutch brother had an Indonesian wife and when they were visiting family in Indonesia they would have a wall panel carved in a workshop. It took about six weeks until the vacation was over. This is how the carving came to the Netherlands.
The quality of this work is very average and does not really qualify it to be exhibited here, especially since I usually only collect religious motifs. However, the daily life of the Balinese and especially extraordinary events contain a multitude of religious rituals. So this motif has its place here, and serves me as a decoration in an inconspicuous place.
