Anggada

 measurements: 31x26,5x13,5 cm
weight: 1930 gr
signed by I Wayan Pudja and Ketut Windu
made in 2020

Anggada was bought as a set with my Nila figurine. Both are signed with the names of I Wayan Pudja and his son Ketut Windu. Sad story, Pudja passed away and left some wooden figures unfinished. His son continued the work, that's why both names are on every figure. If that’s not special enough, Nila and Anggada look alike but they are mirror inverted. You won't see that often.

Look at the very strong expression, just like a frozen moment in time when Anggada did his posing. That's a thing I like in modern carvings, they aren't that static. On the other hand, modern also means a little more "rough" made. Same with my master carvers work Dewi Sri. There is plenty of detail too, but you won't find the wood polished in every corner to the extreme. But that's how they seem to make it today, it's an expression of art. Even I prefer older carvings, I love every piece of my collection.
Just to have it said, Anggada is a Vanara and fought against Ravana's army along with his ape mates.
