Sri with Boar

The statue still has some Art Deco influences, which can be seen in Sri's face shape, especially the look and nose, but also in the depiction of the boar. The age of the statue can therefore be roughly estimated at the 1950s. A small peculiarity takes the posture of Sri's right hand, which is shovel-shaped backwards. Possibly a gesture? It would have been much easier for the carver not to carve out this fragile shape, so I suspect a specific purpose behind it.
According to initial research, there are several mythological stories in which Devi Sri is associated with a wild boar. The boar Srenggi is once referred to as a wild boar, but is also a transformation of Bawi Srenggi, a Gandarwa which is a guardian of a heavenly gate. In either case, the boar seems to wreak some havoc on rice fields, which brings Devi Sri, goddess of rice, into the picture.
As is so often the case, stories vary greatly depending on the region and its religious characteristics. For one of the stories I will decide later to assign it to the statue.

My first statue of Devi Sri is like hate it or love it anyway. Honestly, the carver made this Sri a not so nice male-like face. It's a good example for someone being good in craftsmanship doesn't mean that he is a good artist also. But since it's one of my first better made carvings, I cannot give her away, my beautiful ugly Sri.
