Ganesha and Durga

Here you see the sequel to the story of Uma and the shepard. I love figurines which tell a whole story rather than just depicting a dancing woman. You don't buy just a nice looking piece of wood but something with more background.

This story is about Uma who got back home after she had what we today would call a one night stand. She denied that she had one, but her son proved her wrong. Ganesha owns the book of wisdom in which he can read what happened in the past as what will happen in the future. At least, he had the better arguments and his mother was doomed by her husband Shiva to walk on the graves looking like a demon. In this form she is Devi Durga as you see her in this carving.

Wow, that's what I call a loving family!
