Garuda

Even this Garuda is clearly made in Balinese style, it seems not to be from Indonesia. The seller of this carving told me that her parents brought the figurine with them from a trip to Ladakh, India, in about 1980. Her parents passed away already, so there won't be more information available. I know that carvers in India and Bali are able to copy styles perfectly, so the story from a Balinese Garuda made in India may be true.

Anyhow , I like the classical style here. Looking at the headdress you may see that the carver did somewhat miss a high grade, but the overall look is very nice. When I got my order, the carving was terribly bad packed up. As a result the tounge broke off and there were at least two other damages. I  did the repairs with PVA glue, which did a great job here.
