Shiva and Naga

This statue shows Shiva standing on a Naga. It may be one of the oldest pieces in my collection as it appears to have been made in the pre-war period. The seller, a Dutch woman, had a great aunt who moved to Indonesia immediately after WW2 to run a post or telegraph office there. During this time she acquired a number of statues, some of which have since been sold by the heirs.
This statue corresponds exactly to my idea of a classic carving: the beautiful design, the posture and the typical style of the time. There are some minor signs of wear but these are par for the course given its age. Otherwise the condition is very good, above all there are no missing parts.
I am very happy that this beautiful and excellently preserved carving can continue to be part of a good collection.
