Juarsa, Nagagini and Antaboga

measurements: 32x22x12
weight: 1930 gr

This carving is a very special highlight in my collection, because the motif of Juarsa with Nagagini is extremely rare. I was more than happy to have found one, moreover it is in a very good condition. One of the two tongues of Antaboga, the snake on the right in the picture, is missing, but this is not particularly noticeable.
To make the figurine even more interesting, a sticker on the bottom with the inscription "Neatherland East India S.S.S." indicates that it was made before Indonesia's independence in 1949. After that, there should not have been such a sticker. "S.S.S." is the short name of a New York company (S. S. Sarna) that imported Balinese carvings in the 1940s and resold them in the United States. These were mostly commissioned pieces offered in catalogs.

The carving belonged to an elderly woman who was unfortunately ill and due to her illness could no longer be questioned as to how this statue came into her possession. Her son sold the statue, so it came to me.
I was able to remove the heavy soiling and the excess wax with a cleaning. Afterwards, this beautiful statue looked almost as good as the first day.
