It is unclear which character is depicted here. It is probably Ni Bawang, which is why I am making a mythological reference, as I do not usually collect depictions of daily life.
The very even wood has been skillfully carved. All the lines are flowing and, despite their clear emphasis, soft and full of grace. The female figure appears playful and dreamy. The finely crafted hands and the loving facial expressions deserve special attention.
The previous owner acquired this statue in Bali in 1973 and was always delighted with its effect as a work of art in his home. I share his joy that it can continue to be part of a beautiful art collection.
