Drona

Drona, or Dronacharya, is the teacher of the Pandavas and Kauravas, the later feuding families of whom the Mahabharata tells. As a teacher, Drona deserves great respect, and killing him, as one of his disciples, in battle is one of the great moral conflicts of the story. Not least because of the extensive discussion of moral values in the Mahabharata and their application, Drona has a very important position in the epic.
The statue is massive, weighing over two kilos and finely crafted in every detail. A former break on one of the side parts of the headdress is barely visible in the front view. Statues of this type are often also offered as priests or pedanda, but the exterior and headdress typical of Drona speak against this.
The statue comes from an abandoned collection of a Dutchman, to whom I am very grateful for passing it on.
